Well – What another fun filled, busy year we have had!

Scouting continues to thrive in Dosthill with both youth members and adult volunteers alike making a positive impact in our local community in which we live.

The highlights for 2020/21 are too numerous to mention with just under 100 young people we are preparing to become active citizens of UK PLC with 515 Days worth of experiences collectively undertaken across Beavers, Cubs and Scouts over the year ..despite COVID-19 which is amazing.

Being active in the Community will be one of our key areas of focus this year.  Supporting the local Dosthill Churches community fayres and events; Dosthill Academies Summer Fayre, and Tamworth Rotary and Round Table in their community fundraising efforts will all play apart.  We are particularly active around Christmas.

The Beaver, Cub & Scout Sections have gone from strength to strength under the watchful eye of their fun and approachable leaders.  We have already welcomed 3 new leaders in May 2021 .. so do get in touch if you’d like to help out, either face to face or back-office support.

There was an average attendance of 87 young people as a Group week in week and supported by 5 leadership teams.

Nearly all young people have said that Scouting helps them improve their new skills, including social skills, teamwork, leadership ability and confidence.. as well as helping them build good relationships and long lasting friendships. It’s been a little challenging this year using alternative ways of meeting..but it’s all there.

For our young people who deserve the best skills and the best support, and in short best start in life.. it’s not always the big things like trips ..camps and adventurous activities. It’s sometimes the little things like giving them independence teaching them social skills and responsibility and getting to work as a team that sets a young person up for life.

Thank you all for your patience whilst we have been trying to deliver Scouting in challenging circumstances via Zoom. Working together and supporting the various initiatives has hopefully been an additional hel[ in these challenging times.

Thank you all too for your commitment and support for enabling young people’s futures in the Group to be supported through Scouting.

We are really hoping to welcome some additional leaders and trustees over the coming year – please let us know if you are interested in fun, challenge and adventure.. and we will certainly be in touch to give you a taster with our adult 4-week challenge!.  Whose up for that?

Participation within District events and partnering with other local Scout Groups in the coming year will keep the fantastic programmes alive.

We know, being the largest co-educational youth movement in the World that families, adults and young people alike love to create great lifetime memoires and experiences for our young people, whilst enjoying the fun and togetherness that Scouting brings in bucket loads.

Without our adult volunteers and adult support from families of Scouts, we would literally have no local Dosthill Scout Group.  Our leaders are responsible for delivering a huge range of activities for our young people to enjoy and experience, sometimes for the very first time in their lives – it is very humbling to have such an impact and opportunity to guide youngsters on the journey and experience ‘Skills for Life’.

Acting as instructors, mentors in equal measure whilst trying to stretch the horizons and abilities of each and every youngster in an exciting and age appropriate challenging way, we will once again bring the ideas, values and friendship of scouting alive in the Dosthill community now that we are coming out of COVID-19.

Finally a big BRAVO thanks to all Parents and Supporters of the Scout Group who have supported us over Covid-19 and have done their best to help with support in various ways, making meetings, filling in the various formsets, supporting the completion of badge challenges at home, and above all encouraging their children to take part and all the other ways you show us support.  A single smile from a parent / supporter puts a big smile on a leader’s face – we all appreciate what you do for us and our next generations.  Thank you.
